Sparaxis can grow and bloom in poor soil. For optimal growth, loosen the soil to a depth of 20cm and work in compost. The soil should also be well-draining so add sand if necessary. The corms should be at a depth of 5cm and they should be given 7cm spacing in order to grow. They are pot friendly and the soil should be kept moist – water well in winter. We also suggest planting them in a rock garden.
The corms must be planted in autumn and the plants look their best when planted close together in groups of 25. The lowest temperature that this plant can tolerate is 0°C.
After the winter season, the corms should be kept dry.
Propagation
Propagate the seed and cormlets sown in autumn. These plants are usually thrown away after winter to make space for summer bulbs.
